1.Background and Purpose of the Falcons Shadow Exercise
  The United States Northern Command NORTHCOM held a two-week Falcons Shadow counter-drone exercise in October, aimed at using non-kinetic and low-kinetic mitigation technologies to thwart small unmanned aerial systems UAS.
  During the exercise, defense industry companies demonstrated specialized equipment designed to defeat drones, and military officials emphasized that regulations protecting civilian travel limited their use of more aggressive tools.
2.Drone Capture Technology
  Fortems DroneHunter drone successfully demonstrated a non-invasive, low-collateral damage method of taking down threat UAS by using a net to capture small drones.

3.Drone Detection Technology
  Teledyne FLIRs Cerberus XL counter-drone system integrates radar, electro-optical/infrared,and radio frequencyRFsensors to detect and track drones.
  The Cerberus XL system can detect up to 500 targets simultaneously, which is a key advantage in defending against drone swarms.
4.Drone Take-down Technology
  ICRs TMX and a specific cyber tool named Bulletuse the downlink of enemy devices to take over drones, causing them tolosetheir way during operations.
  With the development of drone technology, electronic hijacking of drones has become more difficult, and newer systems offer stronger anti-jamming capabilities, such as drones that can use onboard maps instead of the Global Positioning SystemGPSto find targets.

5.Anti-jamming Technology
  Drone anti-jamming technologies include spread spectrum and frequency hopping technologies, advanced antenna technologies, and source and channel coding technologies, all aimed at improving the anti-jamming capabilities of drone systems.
6.Exercise Outcomes and Challenges
  TheFalcons Shadowexercise not only provided the industry with an opportunity to understand whether their technology meets the requirements but also offered the Department of Defense a chance to improve existing systems.
  During the exercise,every participant had to detect,track,and identify small drones, with only some participants having the additional capability to mitigate/intercept drone threats.
