1.Cause:
Russia's drone attacks on Ukraine's infrastructure have caused severe damage.

2."Vampire"System

• The "Vampire" system was developed by L3Harris, with the prototype delivered to the U.S.military in April 2022, and made its debut in May. It is designed as an independent weapon system that can be integrated onto various platforms. Depending on mission requirements, it can integrate different sensors and weapon packages to achieve different combat purposes.

• The "Vampire" system consists of a quad-launcher assembly, an electro-optical guidance device,and guided munitions. It features modular design,small size, light weight, high mobility, and can be operated by one person, with installation completed within two hours. The system uses munitions based on 70mm aerial rockets developed into laser-guided rockets, with each interceptor costing less than30,000.

• It employs the WESCAM MX-10 RSTA independent stabilization targeting and control system, with a small telescopic mast on top, equipped with an electro-optical probe, including a high-resolution TV camera, thermal imager, laser rangefinder, and target designator, capable of performing battlefield reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition tasks. The electro-optical probe can scan 360°. Its control device can easily connect to the vehicle's power supply and is installed in the passenger seat.

3.External Evaluation:

• Zhang Xuefeng pointed out that the "Vampire" system has shortcomings, including short range, small protection area, lack of multi-target attack capability, low interceptor maneuverability, and low air search capability.

4.Aid Content:

• "Patriot"air defense battery

• NASAMS, HAWK air defense systems

• AIM-7, RIM-7, and AIM-9M missiles

• Stinger air defense missiles

• "Avenger" air defense system

• VAMPIRE counter-UAS system

• The Department of Defense will also provide UAV systems, radar systems, and numerous systems and components for ground and maritime operations.

5.Conclusion:
The United States will provide725 million in military aid to Ukraine, including 14 "Vampire" counter-UAS systems under the aid plan established last year. In the context of rampant drone warfare,this weapon system is undoubtedly crucial. However, the effectiveness of the "Vampire" system remains to be observed, as it is a newly developed weapon.
